Description
|
|
This work, dating back to the 1642, was built by Borromini. The church located at the end of Sapienza courtyard built by Della Porta, is considered as the highest expression of Borromini's genius; according to many people, it's the best that Baroque art has been able to give to Rome.
The plan of the church reminds the geometry of a triangle and a star shape, resounding symbolic and allegorical motifs.
The tortuous sketch is unaltered for all the height of the church, continuing in its intricate lines even in the vaults of the dome. Just the dome is the most important "piece" that this architecture offers. The lantern that stands at the end of the dome presents a very peculiar spiral shape, that seems to hole the sky of Rome.
Although little known by tourists, it is certainly one of the most beautiful architectural jewels in the city. |
